Group Project - 7 weeks - Team Size: 12 - Responsibility: Level Design

Unity - Couch Multiplayer Party

 

Dinozards is an arena based, top down multiplayer brawler where you play as a Magical Dino-baby having to fight for its survival against other Dino-babies, for the affection of your Wizard Father.

The last Dino standing wins!

Responsibility - Level Design

For the level design I wanted the layout to be simple and clear.

I wanted it to be quite small, with the hazards we have I didn’t want the level to feel too or difficult or overwhelming due to it being too big. 

 

I started out by making some sketches for the team to choose from, and eventually we decided on the one that most people had liked. 

I did the fist basic blockout in Unity, using probuilder and just blocks. After some iteration the rest of the team helped to place the 3D assets and make the level look as amazing as it does.

 

WorstMart: Retail Mayhem

Group Project - 2 weeks - Team Size: 8 - Responsibility: HUD and Pickup System

Unreal Engine - PvP Party Game

WorstMart: Retail Mayhem is the multiplayer game where your shopping dreams come true.

4 players compete against each other in gathering groceries, the player with the most groceries wins. Not only is it a race against your competitors, but time as well - keep an eye on that timer, or you might not get to buy anything at all...

Responsibilities:

I made the pick-up system so that the player character picks up specific objects on impact with them, and this adds a count to the HUD score counter.

Collectibles

To win in WorstMart you have to collect the most groceries, to help with this the game spawns power-ups for the player to pick up and use.

Some being powerful boosts, other dangerous projectiles.

Grocery pick-ups award the player points when picked up. 

They have a yellow and golden highlight to stand out from other groceries in the level.

Power-ups are specific groceries that can be used to improve the player's movement speed or used as weapons do disrupt other shoppers. 

They have a blue highlight to stand out from other groceries in the level. 
 

Power-ups

Speed Boost

When collecting beans the player gets a huge temporary speed boost.

Grocery Remover

A well placed flower pot will knock a grocery out of another shoppers cart.

Shove Grenade

Send your opponents flying by throwing a high speed cactus their way.
Charge

The Charge is an active player ability with a short cooldown. Allowing the player to charge a quick dash attack to knock groceries out of other shoppers carts

 

Octorush

Group Project - 4 weeks - Team Size: 12 - Responsibility: Level Design

Unreal Engine- Time Attack 3D Platformer

In Octorush you take the role as an alien octopus parent who lost his young ones to an evil research organization. It's up to you, the Player, to break into their facility, rescue as many of your children as possible before the lockdown is in effect and escape all but impossible.

Responsibility - Level Design

I mainly worked on the level design trying to make it feel fun and fluent to move around. Jumping and dashing were two important aspects of the character movement, so making sure there was a lot of verticality and obstacles in the level was important.

Octo-Abilities
Oil slide
The player could sprint on to the oil to get more speed and be able to slip through smaller spaces that the player would not be able to get through otherwise.

Implosion
The implosion makes the player able to move an object by shooting it nearby and it will pull all the objects near to the center like a black hole. 

Explosion
The explosion is a modular ability that comes from the player shooting the implosion on an oil barrel changing it to an explosion that can destroy objects such as cracked walls and glass windows.
