Tales from Davokar - The Cave

Degree Project: Level Design - 10 weeks - Unreal Engine - Third Person Adventure

You and two friends explore the caves looking for fortune when
suddenly there's a cave-in and all of you get separated.
Should you really have explored these parts?
Even after hearing all of the gruesome tales from the old miners warning you of something lurking in the depths.

For my degree project I made a 3D platformer level to practise a type of level design I have never really tried, and want to get comfortable in making.

I also wanted to practise using blueprints to create moving objects and character climbing.

 

I took most of my inspiration from 3D Mario games, Uncharted and Dark Souls, whilst always having in mind my favourite role playing game - Symbaroum.

 

Pillars: 

  • Light and darkness, strong contrasts between the areas

  • Floating crystals, the player will jump and climb on them, can be used as obstacles

  • Monster lurking in the shadows, the player will want to avoid the darkest areas
